ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport will once again attack the championship title in their second season
Bratislava, Slovakia, February 20, 2019 – ŠKODA AUTO Slovakia, the importer of the most demanded cars, continues to support motorsport in Slovakia this year. After last year’s more than successful premiere participation in the championship, ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport is entering its second season with an unconcealed ambition: to add a second Slovak Rally Championship title to the overall victory from last year. The horsepower under the hood of the ŠKODA FABIA R5 racing special, which is the most successful race car in its category, will once again be driven by the young ambitious crew of current Slovak Rally Champions Martin Koči / Radovan Mozner jr. This year’s Slovak Rally Championship series starts at the end of March with the KOWAX Valašská rally 2019 in Valašské Meziříčí.
„We are aware of the fact that ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team is a merge of the highest quality components necessary for success: the most successful racing automobile ŠKODA FABIA R5, the confident ambitions and great talent of the young rally driver Martin Koči and the professionalism and high level of experience of the entire team. What other goals could we have this season if not the most ambitious ones, especially since our first season worked out fantastically and gained us the Slovak Rally Champions title?“ rhetorically asks Marek Růžička, the executive manager for ŠKODA AUTO Slovensko. „I highly appreciate the dedication and courage Martin puts into competing. I wish for the little mistakes from the last season to avoid him and for Martin to finish each event in good health and with great time results. I am cheering for him. I am also excited for the start of the series in Valašské Meziříčí and believe that as many fans as possible will come to support Martin in Moravia."
The ambitious duo Martin Koči and Radovan Mozner jr. from the ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team fought hard for the 2018 Slovak Rally Champions title until the last event against an experienced Polish crew Gregor Grzyb / Boguslav Browiński, which finished 2nd in the overall ranking, followed by Peter Gavlák / Emil Horniaček in the 3rd place. All of the winning crews drove the ŠKODA FABIA R5 automobile, which is the most successful rally car in the history of the Czech automobile factory.
Soon, ŠKODA Motorsport will present an updated version of the racing special. The changes are not only related to the look of the car, which takes over the main design features of the upgraded ŠKODA FABIA series vehicle, but also to a number of significant technical innovations, such as the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with more power and improved torque. The new ŠKODA FABIA R5, which will be unveiled to the motorsport public at the International Motor Show in Geneva (March 5 - 17, 2019), will be homologated by the FIA International Automobile Federation in the second quarter of 2019.
„We have enjoyed our premiere Slovak Rally Champions title, but it is now in the past. We are thrilled to continue our cooperation with the ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team in the current season and we will do our absolute best to ensure that it is as successful as last year despite the fact that it will be more difficult, since it is always harder to defend a title than to achieve it. That is why we were extra responsible when it comes to our preparation. We are not thinking about anything other than the title and we cannot wait for the start of the first rally event,“ says Martin Koči.
This season, the drivers will compete in seven events. The current Slovak Rally Champions Martin Koči and Radovan Mozner jr. from the ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team will start the season at KOWAX Valašská rally ValMez 2019 in Valašské Meziříčí.
