ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport: ŠKODA with a new team joining the Slovak motorsport

ŠKODA AUTO Slovakia joining the Slovak motorsport. In the current season, a new racing team of ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport with the successful young driver Martin Koči will fight for the Title of Master of Slovakia in rally. ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport thanks to the support of ŠKODA AUTO Slovensko and cooperation with the Styllex motorsport team will race on the most successful car of its category - ŠKODA FABIA R5. The new team is also planning to take part in selected events of the ERC Junior U28.

ŠKODA AUTO Slovakia, the importer of the most demanding passenger car brand, is starting with a new motor racing season bound with motorsport in Slovakia. Thanks to the cooperation with the ŠKODA Motorsport manufacturer team from Mlada Boleslav and the successful Slovak team Styllex Motorsport, a new race team was created by ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport. His driver is a young talented racer Martin Koči, with co-drivers Radovan Mozner Jr. and Filip Schovánek. The ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team will race on the ŠKODA FABIA R5, which is currently the most successful car in its category.

The partnership with ŠKODA AUTO Slovensko is a combination of two powerful companies. The joint efforts of such entities are a prerequisite for achieving excellent results that will help us strengthen the position of ŠKODA and our team in motorsport. The crew Koči/Mozner Jr. will be racing for the title of Slovak Rally Champion in this season. Fans of motorsport in Slovakia, the new ŠKODA Slovakia Motorsport team and its special racing car ŠKODA FABIA R5, will see on April 13th – 14th at the start of Rally Prešov. Then, it will start at all other races of the Slovak Rally Championship 2018: 25th - 26th May Rallye Tatry, 15th - 16th June Rally Hustopeče, 13th - 14th July Lubeník Rally, 31st August - 1st September Rally Trebišov and the final event will be the Košice Rally, held between October 19 and 21. Martin Koči and co-driver Filip Schovánek will also compete at selected events of ERC Junior U28.

Martin Koči - a bearer of family tradition and achievements
Martin comes from a well-known racing family. His father Michal Koči and his uncle Peter Koči have been involved in motor sport since 1983 and have built the most successful team in the history of the Slovak rally sport. Martin, already at the age of 6, sat behing the steering wheel of a 125 ccm Havel buggy, and as a 9-year-old he managed to move to a higher engine cubic capacity of 250. In his very first season of the JWRC in 2013 he finished sixth. A year later, in the same championship, he was standing on the podium with the bronze medal, and also won the third place in the WRC3. In 2016 he became junior runner-up of the JWRC and in the WRC3 he finished fourth. He was awarded a Title of Master of the Czech Republic in class 5 and in the category 2WD. Last year, Martin Koči and co-driver Filip Schovánek became Champions of Slovakia in Class 2 when they premiered on ŠKODA FABIA R5 car.

ŠKODA Motorsport: More than a century of tradition
The roots of the ŠKODA motor sport tradition date back to the beginning of the last century. More than 100 years ago, Narcis Podsedníček took the number-one position in the demanding long-distance race Paris-Berlin with his Laurin & Klement motorcycle. The tradition, which began on two wheels in 1901, continued in the 70s and 80s with winning series both on the track and at rallies. Most successful, however, is the present-day performance of ŠKODA Motorsport with its special racing car ŠKODA FABIA R5 since its homologation in 2015.

ŠKODA FABIA R5: Currently the most successful motorsport car in its category
The ŠKODA FABIA R5 was officially approved for motor racing by the ​​International Automobile Federation (FIA) three years ago, on April 1, 2015. In the first season, this new racing car class R5 achieved a worldwide success when the crew Pontus Tidemand / Emil Axelsson has won again a title for the ŠKODA manufacturer at the FIA ​​Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. In addition, the manufacturer ŠKODA won five national titles. A year later, the ŠKODA Motorsport manufacturer team with the Finnish crew Lappi / Ferm on the ŠKODA FABIA R5 won the FIA World Rally Championship series in category WRC2.

The year 2017 was the most successful in the history of ŠKODA Motorsport! Last year, up to 14 teams successfully competed with the ŠKODA FABIA R5, winning the titles at their regional championships. ŠKODA FABIA R5 also won the FIA ​​Asian-Pacific Championship (APRC), the FIA ​​South American Championship (CODASUR) and the FIA ​​African Rally Championship (ARC). ŠKODA Motorsport manufacturer team enjoyed great success, when the crew Pontus Tidemand / Jonas Andersson won five rounds of the WRC2 championship, secured the drivers’ titles and ŠKODA won the Team Championship in WRC2.

The ŠKODA Motorsport manufacturer team enter the year of 2018 excellently, when the Czech crew Jan Kopecký / Pavel Dresler dominated WRC2 category in January in Monte Carlo at the opening season of the World Rally Championship.

Successes in motorsport have always served as convincing marketing tools, as customers have always responded to good race results by buying the vehicles. Up to now, more than 170 ŠKODA FABIA R5 racing cars have been delivered to the private teams and importers. The basic race-ready model of the ŠKODA FABIA R5 in accordance with the FIA regulations is available at a price of 189,000 euros without VAT.

The ŠKODA FABIA R5 is the most successful vehicle in the history of ŠKODA Auto in the world rallies. The special racing car is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine according to the FIA ​​regulations. It has four-wheel drive, a sequential five-speed gearbox and an adjustable front and rear McPherson suspension chassis. Regulations set a minimum weight of 1230 kg.
